TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Tabuk City has been officially nominated for the prestigious Philippine Smart and Sustainable Communities (PSSC) Awards, joining Baguio City in the Cordillera Region and 27 other local government units (LGUs) across the country.
The announcement was made during the PSSC Awarding Ceremonies held on May 23 at the Isabela Convention Center in Cauayan City, Isabela. This event was part of the 2025 International Smart City Exposition and Networking Engagement (iSCENE), held from May 22 to 24, 2025.
Representing Tabuk City at the ceremony were City Information Officer and Smart and Sustainable Communities Program Focal Person Aurora Amilig, alongside Ian Jefrey Addatu and PSTO-Kalinga Provincial Director Jasmin Donaal.
Baguio City was represented by Francis L. Camarao, Head of its Management Information and Technology Division.
The evening also highlighted key moments of iSCENE 2025, including the winners of the MoCCov Olympics, the “Hackathon: AI and Big Data in Disaster Risk Reduction,” and the Vi The EGame Esports Competition.
A symbolic turnover of the Handa Pilipinas Manual to the Office of Civil Defense was also conducted, symbolizing significant milestones in science, technology, and innovation.
Secretary Renato U. Solidum of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) emphasized that the PSSC Awards aim to recognize LGUs that courageously adopt innovation and actively work toward inclusive, sustainable development.
He led the recognition ceremony alongside top officials from the DOST, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and other partner agencies.
The 29 LGU nominees will undergo further evaluation, with the winners scheduled to be announced during the 2025 National Science and Technology Week in Region 1 this November.
