TABUK CITY, Kalinga August 11 – Mayor Ferdinand Tuban applauds Non-Government Organization for actively participating in the city’s crusade on illegal drugs.
Shalom Kalinga, an organization composed of religious sect based here in Tabuk City is now conducting a barangay to barangay visitation campaign wherein they offer spiritual services to help families who are experiencing family problems.
In the revitalization of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, Mayor Tubban appreciated the members of Shalom Kalinga because with their canticle service a family experiencing personal problem will be guided spiritually in order for them to stay away with illegal drugs.
Target of this group are barangays here in the city of Tabuk classified by CADAC and BADAC as concerned areas due to proliferation of drugs.
According to Engineer Ferdinand Tubban, Tabuk City Mayor, the group has already submitted their program of work and the proposed budget.
Aside from barangay to barangay visitation, Shalom Kalinga in cooperation with City Social Welfare and Development will conduct research and validation to every barangay to identify if what livelihood project will be implemented especially for those barangay experiencing poverty.
At present, the city are still deliberating on the budget proposal to be used in the campaign against illegal drug.
Meanwhile, the number of surrenderees in the city had grown to more or less 800 drug related personalities.
Sandra Uyam, Chairwoman of the organized City Anti Drug Abuse Council revealed that this number is expected to reach more or less 1000 because according to police report, there are still drug related personalities here in the city did yet submitted themselves under the Oplan Tokhang of the Philippine National Police. The Police are still negotiating to these personalities to voluntarily surrender.
Uyam said they are conducting daily meetings with different stake holders such as Tabuk City Police Office, CSWD, NGO’s And concerned Barangay Officials to closely monitor the implementation of anti-illegal drug program of the city.
The task group is also conducting daily assessment and monitoring of the surrenderees to ensure that these personalities will not just end in submitting themselves to authorities and signing the oath of undertakings but to involve themselves into enrichment program that will make them as a responsible citizens.
In line with the program of CADAC, They are also conducting information and dissemination campaign to every barangay against the negative effect of illegal drugs and encouraging residents of Tabuk City to be vigilant enough and report to authorities suspicious activities. These would be a great help for the LGU for their anti-illegal drug campaign.
