TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To promote health and good nutrition to learners around the city, Tabuk City Schools Division Office (SDO) conducted a one day orientation on “Matatag na Gulayan sa Paaralan Program” (MGPP) to primary and secondary school heads at the 3/F conference room on August 15, 2024.
Through the integration of sustainable agriculture techniques, the MGPP seeks to orient school leaders, create an action plan for the program’s execution, and encourage collaboration.
The prior initiative was known as the “Gulayan sa Paaralan Program” (GPP), and it was improved under Vice President Sara Duterte’s administration, according to Claire Rose Damian, SDO Nurse II.
According to Damian, SDO collaborated with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the Office of the City Agricultural Services (OfCAS) to provide participants with more information about the program.
She went on to say that following the orientation, the participants will visit their respective schools to instruct the staff and students on how to grow and harvest their own vegetables.
“After daytuy orientation, dagituy inadal da dituy ket i-practice da idjay schools tapnu ma-meet da didjay ‘go’ ti region ken central office nga “ONE SCHOOL, ONE PRODUCT’ (OSOP),” she said.
She also said that the MGPP has advanced and would also provide revenue for the participating schools while advancing the OSOP, in contrast to the GPP, which primarily focused on school-based feeding with a significant portion going to undernourished children.
Throughout the entire orientation, the participants learned about organic farming, urban gardening, and how to maximize their gardens in small places while also increasing their output and Return on Investment (ROI. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
