City officials recently declared every last Saturday of April as Tai Chi Day in the city.
Under Resolution No. 285, series of 2024, city legislators stated that the city is home to various recreational activities because of its pleasantly cool or temperate weather that allows practitioners to reconnect with nature like Tai Chi which is now widely practiced in different parts of the world.
Tai Chi is a slow motion, moving, meditative exercise for relaxation and self-defense which originated in China that gained popularity throughout the world for its health benefits.
Further, scientific and medical studies have time and again proven the benefits of Tai Chi for relieving stress and behavior modifiers; improved balance and coordination, especially among elders; increased immune system, muscle tone and bone density; and improved flexibility, general health, and wellbeing.
The council claimed that practicing Tai Chi carries the theories of Yin and Yang and Wu Xing or the five elements which help achieve the goal of being one with nature.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned offices of the local government, organizations and individuals who are advocating the practice of Tai Chi for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
