City officials urged the so-called Task Force Skyline to immediately resolve the issues on the re-opening of the Loakan airport and formulate the appropriate memorandum of understanding between and among the involved stakeholders.
Under Resolution No. 625, series of 2022, local legislators stated that the existence of Task Force Skyline composed of the barangay councils, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group, private and public transport groups, and other volunteers was created to effectively and efficiently address issues and concerns of all affected stakeholders on the re-opening of the Loakan airport to commercial flights.
Earlier, purok leaders and barangay officials of Loakan Proper, Loakan, Apugan, Loakan Liwanag and Atok Trail manifested before the regular session of the local legislative body the need for concerned government agencies and the local government to resolve hanging issues and concerns of the residents on the alleged demolition of structures that had been identified to be obstructions, the passage of people on the runway when there are no incoming and outgoing flights, the construction of the long overdue access roads, among others.
On December 16, 2022, regular commercial flights to and from the Loakan airport resumed with the Cebu-Baguio-Cebu flights 4 times a week every Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The body advised the Task Force Skyline to continue finding ways and means on how to address the prevailing issues for the utmost satisfaction of the concerned parties and to guarantee the smooth operation of the flights in and out of the Loakan airport.
Under Resolution NO. 624, series of 2022, the council tasked the City Engineering Office (CEO) in coordination with the CAAP, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the surrounding barangays to identify or propose an alternate route, the possibility of having an underground road network, or an additional transport route or new franchise route within Loakan barangay and to submit a report to the council within 15 days upon approval of the said resolution.
