BAGUIO CITY – Team YMCA nipped Santrust 65-61 for bracket B on their opening day match up for the 10th YMCA Corporate Cup last November 27, 2015 here at the YMCA gymnasium 65-61. Following a hard earned game the Y’ers pegged a four point lead 15-11 on the first canto of play.
Suntrust gained momentum on the second canto of play to tie the score at 17 points apiece but however was cut short to be on the front seat by the Y’ers defense and control over the boards to take the lead by seven, 32-26 at the end of the second half buzzer. The third canto action placed suntrust in more game pressure as they were limited to only eleven points as against nineteen points converted by the Y’ers to lead by fourteen points in the third canto 51-37.
Grasping their second wind, Suntrust came out strong on the fourth canto action to cut the lead and tie the ball game at 53 apiece and taking the lead on the dying minutes 58-57, however, the Y’ers recovered through their defense strategy to tie the ball game at 61-61, and converted five more points to win the game 65-61 at the end of the buzzer.
Meanwhile, Lopez Building nets their first win over Bowls and Sticks 87-84 in their match up in a rather classic give and go play with the Bowls & Sticks getting an early lead in the first canto 28-20, with Lopez building chopping the lead by only four points at the end of the second half 52-49.
Coming back with better defensive strategies, Lopez Building got their game pace on the third canto of play posting a 24-13 run over bowls & sticks to take the front seat to lead 73-65 at the end of the third canto. With a tied ball game at 83 all at the dying minute of the fourth quarter, bowls & Sticks managed to take the lead by one 84-83 through a point conversion on the foul line, however with Lopez Building’s ball movement they managed to convert two from the field to take back the lead and the win.
On the other hand, the semi finals birth for the Inter-School basketball tilt, the top four teams for High School Varsity brackets A & B, High School Developmental bracket A & B, Elementary Teams bracket A & B and Girls Teams, will see action on December 5, 2015 on cross over matches to determine the top contenders for the finals.
