PINUKPUK, Kalinga – A 17-year old student died after he reportedly drowned along the Saltan River at sitio Aba, barangay Taga, here Thursday.
Senior Superintendent Victor Wanchakan, officer-in-charge of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Marvin Buswal Gannaban, 17, a resident of Sitio Magtapat, Barangay Taga, Pinukpuk, Kalinga.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim, together with his friends, decided to go swimming while having a picnic in the place of incident. At this juncture, the victim decided to take a bath in the river but because of the strong water current, he was carried away and eventually drowned.
Combined police and military rescuers conducted a search and rescue operation and were able to recover the victim who was rushed to the Pinukpuk District Hospital for medical treatment but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
