James Telias crossed the tape at the 3:48:22 mark to rule the 42K category of the Pine Tree Marathon held last January 25, 2015 at Baguio City. The victory is Telias’ fourth crown in five legs of Team Malaya’s Cordillera Series.
Telias previously bagged the Sagada Marathon of Mountain Province, the Rice Terraces marathon of Hungduan Ifugao, and the Golden Harvest Marathon of Banaue, Ifugao. He missed the Gold Rush Marathon of Benguet where Edmund Cura dominated the field.
Meloyd Quinones came in second, clocking 4:24:24, some 36 minutes after Telias. Not too far behind was Sam Guabna timing in at the 4:39:25 mark, good for the bronze.
Xy James Dacyanan and Rashel Pena were crowned king and queen of the 21K category. Dacyanan clocked 1:38:50 while Pena finished third overall with a time of 1:59:51. Coming in second and third for the males are Raul Patrick Concepcion with a time of 1:59:35, just 16 seconds ahead of Pena, and Michael Batac with a time of 2:05:36.
The distaff side were the kings of the 10K category. Six of the top nine finishers were female headed by Karla Fokno who finished first overall. Foknno clocked 54:05.70 to finish ahead of top male finisher Arthur Gonzales who has a time of 57:04.64. Jamilca Regual and Kimberly Panilawon arrived simultaneously, with only a fraction of a second separating them to bag the silver and bronze for the ladies. Regual came in third overall at the 1:10:11.12 mark while Panilawon arrived fourth overall with a clock of 1:10:11.58. Eric Anthony Nazar finished sixth overall at the 1:17:59 mark to bag the men’s silver while Jonathan Villena came in eighth overall at the 1:31:50 mark to bag the bronze.
This run marks the closing of the successful staging of the first year of the Cordillera Series. But it’s a despairing event for running enthusiasts as the Series is back for the second year. As a matter of fact, the second year of the Series shall start in a short while with the 2nd Sagada Marathon at Sagada, Mountain Province on February 15, 2015.
