LUNA, Apayao – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) celebrated the National Tech Voc Day at EKB Gymnasium San Isidro, Luna, Apayao on August 29, 2024 at the same time held a job fair in a bid to contribute to the reduction of unemployment in the province.
This activity was hosted by the TESDA headed by Provincial Director Engr. Glenn Murphy, featuring the World Café of Opportunities (WCO) to create more opportunities, trainings and assistance and to continue the good convergence of various agencies and establishments.
Several government offices joined the celebration including the Land Bank of the Philippines, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Army, Department of Science and Technology, Overseas Worker Welfare Administration, Social Welfare and Development, Apayao Training Center, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Department of Agriculture.
During the event, 12 employers were present in the job fair which included Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, Apayao Cagayan Medical Center Inc., Rural Bank of Angeles, Kasipag Microfinance Inc., ASA Philippine Foundation, Riseline Crisologo Farm, Revelyn Duldulao’s Farm, Puputi Nature Farm, Maquera Agri Farm, Agguimangan Agro-Eco Tourism Farm, Veaveranda Nature Farm & Training Center Inc., and A&G Training and Assessment Center Inc.
Over 158 job seekers participated in the job fair, hoping to find the best work and employer.
Murphy said “we’re not here just to seek job but to avail programs/services and grab the opportunities given by the different line agencies. Join training to gain skills for better employment.”
Jane Adalan, provincial head of DOLE, encouraged the applicants to find jobs that are suited to them as long as they are qualified, inspiring them to do well.
“Pagbutihan ninyo ngayong araw at sana mahanap ninyo ang para sa inyo at sa mga employer’s alam ninyo naman ang gusto ninyong maging workforce ng kumpanya ninyo,” she added
The office of the Congresswoman Eleanor C. Bulut Begtang, represented by Marinel J. Ginez, and the governor represented by Soledad Espita, were also present and both talked about the programs aiming to provide more opportunities to yApayaos.
One of the 12 hired on the spot workers is Shylyn S. Grande, a TESDA scholar. She said she is happy and couldn’t believe that she was hired as TVET Trainer in Maquera Farm.
Meantime, Darylle James Perdido of Sta. Lina, Luna, who has been seeking a job for almost three months, said he joined the job fair, hoping for positive outcomes.
The event concluded with the distribution of allowances and starter tool kits to TESDA scholars and TVET alumni. By Loremia Pareja
