BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Mountain Province (MP) kicked off its 30th anniversary celebration through the “Kapihan with TESDA-MP” and the Halal Awareness Training.
The twin event was held simultaneously at the Multi-Purpose Hall on August 12, 2024.
The panelists of the kapihan were TESDA-MP Acting Provincial Director Melita D. Pinic; Community Affairs Officer June C. Pinayakan, representing Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr.; Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-MP Provincial Head George G. Lubin, Jr.; Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-MP Provincial Director Mabel F. Banggawan; Senior TESD Specialist Christine M. Oliquiano; MP Association of TVIs President Winifred G. Cue; MP Association of TVET Trainers and Competency Assessors President Han B. Valdez; and Community Training and Employment Coordinator Association President Renan Jake D. Oyang-o.
During the kapihan, Pinic expressed her appreciation to the provincial government, DOLE, DTI, Philippine Information Agency, Radyo Pilipinas, various Technical-Vocational Associations, and other stakeholders who took part in successful implementation of the kapihan that gave enlightenment to all the questions that were asked.
On behalf of the Governor Lacwasan, Pinayakan said that the provincial government will continue to support the programs of the TESDA through its 800,000-peso aid to TESDA under the Barangay Muna Program of Governor Lacwasan. He also mentioned that the provincial government, through its Special Education Fund, has allotted an amount of PhP200,000 as support to students and teachers under the Alternative Learning System.
Meanwhile, in compliance to one of the Ten-Point Agenda of TESDA Secretary Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu, the TESDA-MP, in coordination with the DTI-MP, also spearhead the Halal Awareness Training to various stakeholders in the different Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions in the province.
Pinic explained that the said halal means permitted or lawful according to the laws of Islam. She further explained that the training on halal awareness can be beneficial to the participants as it ensures them that they are well-equipped in meeting the demands of industries where halal standards are significant. Moreover, it enhances not only the career prospects and job readiness of the participants but also contributes to industry compliance, consumer trust, and ethical business practices.
The discussion of the training was facilitated by Senior Trade and Industry Specialist Jones G. Malwagay. He introduced halal as an opportunity for product marketing and business profit as the concept of halal is an assurance of good quality, safety, hygiene, and cleanliness.
Also in celebration of the TESDA anniversary, the TESDA-MP will be holding a face-to-face National Tech-Voc Day cum World Cafe of Opportunities (WCO) on August 14, 2024 from 8AM to 5PM at the Multi-Purpose Hall.
The WCO will serve as a one-stop shop where government agencies, private companies, tech-voc institutions and financing institutions converge to offer employment, training, competency assessment, and financial assistance to TVET graduates/ alumni.
