KIANGAN, Ifugao – A total of 25 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) here were trained by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Automotive Servicing NC I in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to ensure their employability once they get out from the jail facility.
“TESDA has been very active in addressing the needs of our special clients. We want them to improve their lives despite of their past,” said TESDA-Ifugao Provincial Director John Adawey.
The training enabled them to perform gas and diesel tune-up, service automotive battery service ignition system, test, and repair wiring/lighting system, perform under chassis preventive maintenance and perform shop maintenance.
Of the 25 PDLs, 22 were males and three were females who were trained under the said training from October 9, 2019 to November 7, 2019.
He said that the implementation of the skills training is in accordance with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Provincial Training Center (PTC) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) that aims to enhance, improve and provide skills training for PDL’s.
PD Adawey said that the graduates were accommodated through the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA).
There are also various scholarship programs of TESDA that the PDLs can avail of such as Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP), Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), Special Support Training Program (SSTP).
Meanwhile, Felixberto Matute Jr., Administrator of Provincial Training Center-Ifugao vowed to continuously provide trainings to the community.
“Rest assured that we will continue to provide skills training to those who are in need,” he said.
