TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In celebration of its 30th founding anniversary, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) staged the ‘World Cafe of Opportunities’ (WCO) from August 19-24 to provide opportunities to individuals seeking local and foreign employment.
Apart from local and foreign job opportunities, it also aims to bring the services of government agencies to the public.
Technical-vocational schools which are affiliated with TESDA like Cherwai School of Skills, A & G Training and Assessment Center, Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education- Kalinga campus, some integrated farm schools, or with national line agencies like the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), and the city government were there to take applications for jobs and provide information about their services and programs.
Private banks, employment and placement agencies, and food businesses including McDonald’s, Mang Inasal, and Jollibee Foods all took part in the effort to identify potential workers. The one-day jobs fair featured participation from the Social Security System (SSS).
Hon. Allen Jesse Mangaoang received the “TESDA Kabalikat” award from TESDA during the event for his legislative funding support of the agency’s educational initiatives, and Alma Mae Cortez, was named “Idol ng TESDA 2024” for her success in the tech sector.
Additionally, there were job candidates hired on the spot, including Jefferson Layno with J&T and Kobe Sallidao and Gellad Galban with Jollibee Foods Corp. They will begin working on these companies as soon as the necessary paper works are received.
During the event, trainees who completed the 11-day concoction production and 19-day masonry training were recognized.
The WCO was opened by a ribbon cutting with the partner agencies present witnessing the said event.
Following the inaugural event, OIC Provincial Director Proserphina Pacyado convened a “kapihan” meeting with government partners to talk about the agency’s present and upcoming initiatives.
