I know most you do not know who Patrick D. Alcedo is, but to the people of Itogon, Benguet he is the happiest person they ever got acquainted with. Designated as co-op officer of the Local Government Unit of Itogon, Benguet he never fails to bring joy and laughter with his candid humor every time he meets with a group. But mind you, he was not just a comic. He is a hard worker and serious about the job Mayor Palangdan has given him.
I met him just recently and he was so excited and proud to report to me that he was able to increase the number of co-ops from 17 to 26 as of the present and more associations are intending to transform into a co-op this year. Over a cup of coffee, he expressed his desire to write also in this column about his accomplishments. However, he admitted it himself that he doesn’t know how to begin. So I convinced him to write for him.
Meanwhile, I do not know how serious and truthful he was but he said that they (Itogon LGU) buy this paper, Herald Express, in bunches. (Please check and confirm Mr. Marketing Officer)
For just three years as Executive Assistant II and at the same time, the livelihood coordinator, Mr. Alcedo was able to work out the release of around 18 million pesos from Itogon LGU for various livelihood projects for 88 associations all over the municipality, co-ops included. This is indeed a huge accomplishment and this is no laughing matter. Just imagine what he can still do if he will continue for another 3 years.
I can still remember the day when we went to visit Mayor Palangdan as the newly elected mayor in 2013. He assured us of his 100% support for co-op development in Itogon at least. Today, he kept true to his promise and never failed our expectations. I would like to congratulate the good mayor for making the right decision in getting the services of Mr. Alcedo as his livelihood coordinator. Through the efforts of Mr. Alcedo, the various co-ops in Itogon are finally feeling the tangible support and the helping hand of government when it comes to community development and people empowerment through co-operativsm.
Mabuhay ka, Patrick Alcedo!
