LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – In order to promote the importance of awareness on lung diseases in the La Trinidad, the Municipal Health Services Office (MHSO) through its TB Program Coordinator Kevin M. Osit facilitated the conduct of “Lecture on TB Prevention and Treatment through the Barangay Health Workers,” and free chest X-ray services provided by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) in coordination with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) represented by Darwin B. Simsim, in observance of the National Lung Month.
Held at the municipal gymnasium, the lecture was attended by barangay health workers (BHWs) and members of the community from different Barangays who heard from the resource person Peter Andrew R. Boado, NTP Program Officer-National TB Control Program of the from health department’s Cordillera Local Health Support Division-Communicable Disease Cluster.
The celebration of the National Lung Month, despite the COVID-19 pandemic aims to focus the public’s attention to Tuberculosis, Pneumonia and other related Lung Diseases.
The participants were also reminded on the importance of personal knowledge on the dangers of infectious tuberculosis in their daily interaction with other people, as well as the free treatment provided by the Government.
The month of August was declared as the National Lung Month in the country through Presidential Proclamation No. 1761, and was signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. on July 24, 1978.
Likewise, former President Fidel V. Ramos issued Presidential Proclamation No. 840; s.1996 dated July 30, 1996 declaring August 19 every year as the National Tuberculosis day that marks the birth anniversary of President Manuel Luis Quezon who died due to Tuberculosis.
Together, we shall raise public awareness and understanding about one of the world’s deadliest infectious killer. By TB
