TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Thousands of indigent people with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens continue to benefit from the financial assistance, educational assistance, mortuary assistance, and other special programs of the city government through the City Special Concerns and Coordinating Office (CSSCO).
From January to October this year, some 650 PWDs received financial assistance of P 500 per month while a total of 92 PWDs enrolled in different private and public schools and colleges received educational assistance ranging from PhP 5,000 to PhP 10,000, according to CSSCO department head Glenn Wansi.
In the same period, the CSSCO registered 474 new PWDs and renewed the registration of 374 PWDs, and facilitated the organization of PWDs in 40 barangays.
Wansi said PWD registration is continuous as he encouraged families living with PWDs to present them for registration so that they can avail of the special programs of the city.
Aside from financial and educational aid, the CSSCO also extended mortuary assistance of P 5,000 each to the families of 11 registered PWDs who passed away.
Under the programs for the elderly, the CSCCO has released the ID cards of 791 newly registered senior citizens and issued 175 medicine booklets and 114 purchase booklets as of October, Wansi said.
The CSSCO has also given PhP 50,000 mortuary assistance to each of the families of 173 senior citizens who died.
The CSSCO also distributed three wheelchairs and six canes to seniors to improve their mobility.
As the partner of the national government in the implementation of the social pension for seniors, the CSSCO facilitated the pay-out of social pension amounting to PhP 1,500 covering three quarters for 5,762 beneficiaries in the city.
