TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee’s Technical Working Group convened to discuss progress made so far and future plans to address the province’s malnutrition problem. Participants included staff from the Provincial Health Office, City Health Services Office, municipal health offices from various municipalities in the province, and partner agencies such as the Department of Education , Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and more.
The Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator, Kristal Gail Dacio, commended the team for their work and noted that malnutrition rates had dramatically decreased, particularly for children under the age of five.
Dacio also said that the provincial government may help the agencies if they found any projects lacking, which would also help the Provincial Action Plan, which is based on the Philippine Plan of Action on Nutrition.
The accomplishments included gulayan sa barangay, supplemental feeding programs, the purchase of nutritional supplies and equipment, the distribution of free medication, personnel training, information education campaigns and seminars, livelihood programs, cash for work, guidelines regarding the type of healthy food that should be served in schools and canteens, and more.
