Two teams from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) department of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) won the grand championship and second runner-up placement in the European Union (EU) Whiz Digital Art Competition and the EU Whiz Video Competition conducted from May 31 to June 16, 2021 by the Delegation of the EU to the Philippines to rediscover the ties and common history that bind Europeans and Filipinos together. The EU Whiz is an annual gathering of Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines showcasing college student’s knowledge on the European Union and its partnership with the Philippines. The competition was organized in the Philippines by the Delegation of the European Union that aims to promote partnership and cooperation among the 27 member states of the European Union and the Philippines.
In the EU Whiz Digital Art Competition, Jan Blanco and Nyssa Tagapulot, both taking Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communication, bagged the top spot. Their digital art entry was titled “Meeting Grounds of Intersectional Environmentalism.” For the EU Whiz Video Competition, Jillian Ramos and Thea Lomboy, both BS Psychology students, and Ella Bie, a BA Behavioral Science student ranked third. They titled their video “Empowered through Time.” This was the first EU Whiz conducted online. This year’s theme is “EU Whiz: Filipino Youth of the FEUture.” By Joshua R. Cadiogan
