City officials recently congratulated and commended the University of Baguio (UB) Cardinal athletes for winning medals at the Philippine Athletics Championships held in Pasig City last May 8-12, 2024.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the UB Cardinal athletes serve as an inspiration for aspiring athletes and individuals striving for excellence in their respective endeavors.
Earlier, the UB Cardinal athletes displayed their exceptional dedication, perseverance and athlete prowess in the realm of competitive athletics.
Further, the guidance and mentorship provided by coach Hernanie C. Store have been instrumental in shaping the team’s capabilities and fostering a culture of hardwork and determination.
The council added that the Cardinal athletes commitment to excellence and tireless training regimen have culminated in a momentous victory in the Philippine Athletics Championships.
According to the body, the accomplishment and achievement of the athletes not only showcased their excellence but also brought honor and pride to the city.
Among the medalists in the aforesaid competition include Denver Tacay – bronze medalist in the men’s discus throw under 20; Clyde Benito, Shiela Mae Domiles, Mark Anthony Guillermo and Angel Mae Saysay – silver medalist in the 4×400 mixed relay; Angel Mae Saysay – bronze medalist in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase; Sheila Mae Domiles – gold medalist in the women’s 800-meter run; Denver Tacay – gold medalist in the men’s hammer throw; and Kurt Colalong – bronze medalist in the men’s hammer throw.
For the under 18 category, Xyndrex Chris Orinion, Leishan Kate Masangcay, Ken Ryzen Herrera and Cytelle Anne Amendi – gold medalist in the 4×400-meter mixed relay; Ken Ryzen Herrera – bronze in the 800-meter run and bronze medalist in the 1,500-meter run.
