The Philippine Statistics Authority–Cordillera Administrative Region (PSA-CAR) recently conducted the 26th Philippine Statistics Quiz at Himnasyo Amianan, University of the Philippines Baguio, Governor Pack Road, Baguio City last November 14, 2022.
The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is a national annual contest designed to assess the statistical knowledge of freshmen enrolled in colleges and universities across the country’s 17 regions. Twenty-two contestants from eleven different higher education institutions (HEIs) in Cordillera competed in the said event.
The PSQ consisted of three rounds equivalent to one point for each question answered correctly in the first two rounds, and two points for each correct answer in the third round. Each round consisted of ten questions. However, only the contestants with cumulative scores of at least 10 points for the first two rounds were qualified to proceed to the third and final round. The questions for the three rounds were mostly statistical computations.
Accumulating the final scores of 32 points, 26 points, and 22 points, the two contestants from the University of the Philippines Baguio bagged the championship as well as the second place, while University of the Cordilleras won 3rd place.
The winners and their coaches were as follows: Champion: Charles Dwight M. Pelaez Coach: Dr. Rizavel C. Addawe, University of the Philippines Baguio; 2nd Place: Joshua Abiezer Y. Marayag, Coach: Dr. Rizavel C. Addawe, University of the Philippines Baguio; 3rd Place: Zhyrel Shan G. Bangnan, Coach: Jonas L. Depaynos, University of the Cordilleras.
Charles Dwight M. Pelaez will represent the Cordillera in competing for the upcoming 26th Philippine Statistics Quiz National Finals that will be held on December 6, 2022 in Metro Manila.
