City officials recently congratulated and commended Mac Daryll P. Malto of the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) for winning first place in the 2023 National Higher Education Day On-the Spot Painting Competition held last July 31, 2023 at the Manila Metropolitan Theater, Ermita, Manila.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, city legislators stated that the local government expresses its pride for the honor received by one of its young visual artists, whose arts skills affirm the city’s identity as a city of creative people.
Earlier, the 2023 National Higher Education Day On-the-Spot Painting Competition was opened to Filipino students who are enrolled in fine arts programs in state universities and colleges, Commission on Higher Education-recognized local universities and colleges and partner higher education institutions for the academic year 2023-2024.
A collaboration between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the competition provides a platform for students to create visual representations showcasing the stories of Filipino students in their pursuit of educational goals.
This contest was held last July 31, 2023 at the Manila Metropolitan theater in Ermita, Manila.
Of the 15 shortlisted entries, the first place was awarded to Malto’s entry entitled ‘Lipad ng Eroplanong Papel’ which is a visual representation of his own family’s pursuit of his educational goals.
The Baguio-based winner received a trophy and P150,0000 cash prize for the said winning piece.
Malto is a student of the UPB taking up Certificate in Fine Arts (CFA). He is also a beneficiary of the government’s free higher education program.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Malto and the UPCB for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed information.
