BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the City Engineering Office (CEO) to construct a visitor or tourist rest area or view deck along Loakan road.
Under Resolution No. 628, series of 2024, local legislators stated that there is a need for the construction of a visitor or tourist rest area and view deck along Loakan road since tourist spots are near the area which makes it more accessible for them to take a stroll while enjoying the scenic view of the City of Pines.
During the Senior Citizens Officials for A Day (SCOFAD) session held on October 14, 2024, the SCOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SCOFAD Councilor Jethro G. Carantes that sought to construct a visitor or tourist area and view deck along Loakan road.
The council claimed that Republic Act (RA) 9593 or Tourism Act of 2009 recognizes that tourism is an indispensable element of the national economy and an industry of national interest and importance which must be harnessed as an engage of socio-economic growth and cultural affirmation to generate investment, foreign exchange and employment and to continue to mold an enhanced sense of national pride for all Filipinos.
Further, the body added that the improved infrastructure, tourist attractions, culture, tradition, civilization and the historical riches of the city contribute greatly to the promotion of tourism.
Loakan road is one of the most peaceful and calming spots in the city due to its mountainous terrain and forested land.
The council noted that along the stretch of Loakan Road, there is a specious area that can be developed to construct a visitor or tourist rest area and view deck.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CEO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
