BAGUIO CITY – A hundred volunteers participated in the 10KOK tree caring and waste management activity at the 92-hectare land of Department of Agriculture – Baguio Animal Breeding and Research Center (DA-BABRC) in Dontogan, Baguio City on August 24, 2024.
Over the course of the event, approximately 500 seedlings—including guava, coffee, jackfruit, and tricantera—were planted. In addition, hundreds of existing plants were cleaned and fertilized.
The event, the fourth organized by the 10KOK initiative since its inception in December 2023, received support from several key partners. These included Sto. Tomas National High School, the University of Baguio-The Travel Club, the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region, the Bureau of Plant Industries, Benguet State University’s College of Forestry and College of Agriculture, Moog Baguio Credit Cooperative, and the Adal Kordilyera Program.
Project Leader Femy Gwyneth Akiapat highlighted the rewarding experience of empowering young people to participate in the project. “It proves that we, the youth, are environmentally conscious and have a lot to offer for the betterment of our society,” she said.
Akiapat also emphasized the importance of community engagement through partnerships and collaborations. “Having a shared vision also allows us to increase participation and engagement and implement fast-paced projects ensuring regular maintenance which maximizes the benefits for both the environment and the people involved,” she added.
