BONTOC, Mountain Province – In support of the plight of dialysis patients at the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH), the municipal government spearheaded a walk for a cause on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.
The charity walk, with a minimum registration fee of fifty pesos (Php 50.00), was one of the lined-up activities of the municipal government in celebration of the town’s 116th Founding Anniversary and the 20th Am-among Festival.
To jump-start the activity, a series of warm-up exercises was led by personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Police Station before the more than an hour-long walk from the Municipal Capitol Quadrangle to Amlosong Bridge.
The event was organized by the Mayor’s Office and the Municipal Human Resources Management Office (HRMO), in coordination with various National Line Agencies’ provincial offices and the Provincial Government of Mountain Province.
“We are grateful to all the participating entities. Thank you for your strong support. This is another proof of the timeless value of ‘Og-ogfu’ that is ingrained in all of us. We hope that with this initiative, we are setting an example for generations to come. The mantra of ‘Tayo ay magkasama, sa hirap at ginhawa’ does not only apply to marriage. It applies to all circumstances where every ounce of help is needed, especially for the sick and needy,” Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, Jr. said.
“We hope that the amount we generate from the walk for a cause will somehow ease the daily burden of our dialysis patients at the Bontoc General Hospital,” he added.
It can be recalled that the provincial government also turned over the proceeds from the 2024 Women’s Day Walk-for-a-Cause to the dialysis patients at BoGH on August 3, 2024.
Meanwhile, Mayor Tudlong and Bontoc HRMO Arleen Eickmee F. Gasmeña awarded certificates of appreciation and tokens to both the oldest and youngest walk participants.
The 78-year-old Evelyn Joyce N. Taguiba, a retired school principal, was the oldest walker, while five-year-old Wilmer Bokiki was the youngest.
To cap off the morning event, the participants enjoyed brewed coffee and food, courtesy of the municipal government, as a gesture of gratitude to the gathered throng. By Hail, MP
