Our daily actions determine who we become. The activities that we do everyday affects the results we will enjoy or suffer in the future.
The question now is, “What are you doing today? Is it something that will bring you closer to your dream or farther away from it?” We need to ponder upon these questions.
Just today, I met Dananjaya Hettiarachchi, the 2014 World Champion of Public Speaking. He is our keynote for this year’s District Conference of Toastmasters District 75-Philippines. He shared that he was able to achieve his goal of becoming a World Champion because he had been taking the necessary actions in many days, months, and years. He had been practicing and competing, practicing and competing, practicing and competing… until he finally got the title. He became what he had been doing.
Some say this is common sense. Unfortunately, it’s not common practice.
Have you met people who say they want to become a book author but they are not putting the hours to write something or craft their creative pieces? Have you seen people who said they aspire to become singers but they do not even sing a simple song or note? Have you come across individuals who said they need a job but do not search around for openings or even attempt to apply for one?
Try to look around. But hey, look at yourself first. Reflect on this, “Are my actions aligned to who I want to become?”
If the answer is yes, go deeper. Ask, “Is the quality of my actions aligned to the quality of person I want to become?” If the answer is no, either you change your dream or change your action.
Let me say it again, “We become what we do.”
The question now then is, “Who do you want to become? What are you doing now to become the person who want to be?”
