City officials recently congratulated and commended Algene Arenillo Torres of the Catholic-run Saint Louis University (SLU) for winning two bronze medals in the world Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Long Beach, California, United States of America from June 28 to July 6, 2024.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., local legislators stated that Torres’s spectacular achievement brought pride and honor to the Louisian community, to the city and to the country, hence, he is well deserving of commendation and recognition from the local government.
Out of 62 countries and almost 2,600 competitors, Torres, an official delegate of Team Philippines – World Championships for Performing Arts 2024, snared two bronze medals for Vocal Open category and Contemporary Acting during the said international competition held at Long Beach, California last June 28 to July 6, 2024.
He was also awarded a scholarship grant for winning in the aforesaid prestigious competition. The scholarship is a 4-week intensive training at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.
Torres, 25, is from Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur and is presently residing at barangay Irisan, Baguio City.
He is a former SLU performing artist, particularly at the Center for Culture and the Arts and Glee Club.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Torres and SLU administration for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
