Winners in 6th PMGCI Golf for Cause bared

BAGUIO CITY  – Organizers of the 6th edition of the Philex Mines Golfers Club, Inc. (PMGCI) Golf for a Cause dubbed “A cause that fits to a tee” bared the winners of the one-day golf tournament that was held at the Baguio Country club fairway last November 2, 218. A record of all sorts as it hit the century mark in terms of golfers that participated.
            Deo Halog who garnered the lowest net score emerged as the tournament’s overall champion while Chester Calpotura ended up with the lowest gross.
            Sonny Liwan emerged as the champion in the men’s division Class A followed by Ramir Badua with Fred Puckett landing in third via count back in the last 6 holes while Councilor Michael L. Lawana topped Class B followed by Louie Leganzo and Rico Docena who also placed third via count back in the last 6 holes.
            Leonard Sab-it topped Class C followed by Gil Doria who secured his position via count back in the last 6 holes and Noel Tan who placed third.
            Cris Seraphine topped the ladies division followed by Beth Patterson and Jane Aslor who landed in third.
            The special awardees were Gil Doria who bagged the award for nearest to the pin having putted the ball 20 inches close to the hole at hole No. 9 while Chester Calpotura capped the award for longest drive some was 323 yards in hole No. 3.
            Benjie Favis ran away with the most accurate drive having driven the ball right on the line in hole No. 8.
            The 6th PMGCI Golf for a Cause was conducted on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Padcal mining operation that started in 1958 of Philex Mining Corp.
            Aside from Philex Mining Corp., Baguio Golf and Country Club and Benguet Electric Cooperative as partners in the conduct of the tournament, the Golf for a Cause was also done in partnership with Ala’s Parts, BB Shipping, Shell Philippines, Vega Industries, Civic Merchandising, Delta Earthmoving Inc., Epiroc Philippines Inc., Gendiesel Philippines Inc., Hicor Manufacturing Corp., Manila Electric Company, Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and Prince Ace Corp.
            The Philex Mines Golfers Club is composed of employees who are golf enthusiasts themselves from the Padcal Mine of Philex Mining Corporation (“Philex”) in the mining rich province of Benguet. No less than PHILEX’s President and CEO, Engr. Euls Austin, a single-digit handicap player, leads the group together with then Padcal Mine’s Resident Manager, Engr. Libby Ricafort. It was during one of the group’s fellowship session after a good round of golf when the idea to make a meaningful reason for the group to continue playing the costly sport while enjoying it. The group went to envision to establish a scholarship program for deserving children of the miners-employees of the Padcal Mine. And the 1st Golf for a Cause was born during on the occasion of the 50th year anniversary of operation of PHILEX’s Padcal Mine. The rest is history.
The group named themselves as the Philex Mines Golfers Club. It was given an official corporate life on September 9, 2013 by the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), Baguio Extension under Company Registration No. CN201332619. The Philex Mines Golfers Club, Inc., a non-stock non-profit corporation, went on to register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue under OCN-4RC0000744942. The main incorporators were Libby Ricafort, Noel Tan, Louie Leganzo, Ceasar Romualdo and Eduardo Aratas.
