BOKOD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap led public works and municipal government officials in the formal inauguration of a portion of the outer ring of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) circumferential road, particularly at the Labey-Lacamen provincial road situated at Sitio Labey, barangay Ambuclao, here, Friday.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House committee on appropriations, was joined by District Engineer Ireneo S. Gallato, Assistant District Engineer Benny Mendoza and projects engineers Celso Aquino and Reagan Pedro and Bokod municipal and barangay officials headed by Mayor Thomas K. Wales, Jr. and Vice Mayor Pedro Anton during the simple inauguration and ribbon cutting rites.
Speaking before a crowd that was gathered in the ribbon-cutting site, Congressman Yap assured the people of Benguet that for as long as he will be the designated legislative caretaker of the province, he will work hard to make the appropriate representations with the concerned government agencies to provide the needed funds to implement high impact development projects in the different municipalities that will make Benguet one of the most developed provinces in the country in the future.
He disclosed that he pleaded to Public Works Secretary Mark Villar to include at least P1.5 billion out of the proposed P3.3 billion funding for the BLISTT circumferential road in next year’s budget since he personally saw that there was no additional funds that had been included by the agency for the BLISTT project.

The 15-kilometer Labey-Lacamen Provincial Road connects the Halsema Highway at its junction along Km. 21 to the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road leading towards the Cagayan Valley.
Gallato claimed that the concreting, widening, slope protection and installation of safety signages along the said roadline was undertaken by RODECOM and the same was completed way ahead of schedule, especially in the portion where the P90 million project was programmed.
Congressman Yap underscored that for next year, he made an appeal to all contractors who will be awarded projects from the agency to make sure that they will hire people from Benguet, especially the places where the projects will be implemented to contribute in the efforts of the government to provide jobs for the people who were heavily impacted by the implementation of the community quarantine to combat the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the different parts of the country.
In the case of the Labey-Lacamen road, Gallato revealed that the projects along the roadline started in 2017 and will be completed by next year aside from the putting in place of the appropriate slope protection measures and safety signages to ensure that it will be safe for residents and motorists, especially during the rainy season where the said alternate rod serves as an important linked to the northern and southern towns of Benguet and other parts of the Cagayan Valley.
He said that Benguet is grateful to Congressman Yap for his hardwork and dedication to work for the sustainable development of the province even if he is only a legislative caretaker which means that the province is very lucky to have him as their adopted son.
