LUNA, Apayao – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Apayao recently conducted a two-day intensive Training on Cacao Butter Processing held at the DTI-Apayao Provincial Office in barangay San Isidro Sur and the Kacao Haven Learning Center in barangay Zumigui on October 17-18,2024.
The training was participated in by local cacao farmers, associations, and cooperatives to produce high-quality cacao products to increase their sales and income. The training is also part of the government’s effort to boost cacao development in the province.
The training focused on cacao butter processing, which is an important step in manufacturing high-quality cacao byproducts that fulfill market demands. It addresses the under-utilization of cocoa butter as a byproduct and promote both sustainability and profitability of the cacao business.
Dr. Crisel C. Domingo, Assistant Professor at Isabela State University Echague Campus, served as the resource speaker, providing a comprehensive overview of key topics such as introduction to cacao and its by-products, innovations in cocoa butter processing, and financial viability and market insights for cocoa butter.
A hands-on demonstration at the Kakao Haven Learning Center provided attendees a practical understanding of cocoa butter processing methods. The resource person’s step-by-step guidance helped participants visualize and internalize the process, which improved their learning experience.
By providing participants with necessary skills and knowledge, the program, according to DTI-Apayao, empowers the cacao community, promoting economic development and improving the province’s cacao sector. By Michelle Acantilado
