LUNA, Apayao – With the aim to develop awareness and resilience of the youth to effectively prepare themselves and be useful in times of disasters, the province, through the provincial DRRM office conducted its observance of the annual National Disaster Resilience Month involving mostly young people to foster the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) challenges.
This year’s focus is on prioritizing the well-being of every Filipino, enabling them to actively contribute to building a more resilient nation.
On July 25, 2023, the provincial celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month took place at the Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC), San Gregorio, Luna, Apayao. The event featured the theme “BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being Toward Disaster Resilience.”
70 Senior High School students from the seven municipalities of the province attended and actively participated in the “Run for Resilience” event, which included 5 kilometer and 3 kilometer categories.
Additionally, an Inter-Municipality DRRM Olympics for Senior High School students was held, with the municipality of Pudtol emerging as champions, Kabugao securing the first runner-up position, and Sta. Marcela coming in third.
During the event, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Provincial Health Office (PHO) personnel were present to ensure safety precautions were in place.
