BAGUIO CITY – The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Baguio will mark its 75th anniversary on Dec. 1.
Program chairman Rev. Robert Sison said they have started the 75-day countdown last Sept. 16 with an ecumenical prayer to mark the milestone in the history of the youth movement.
Sison said all the programs and activities that the YMCA Baguio had conducted since January this year were anchored on the diamond jubilee celebration.
The activities were geared for youth development in keeping with the tenets of the YMCA.
October activities will be capped by the YMCA Baguio 75th Anniversary gold tournament and the monthly visit and cleaning of the YMCA “muyong” or tree-planting site at the Busol watershed.
In November, activities include the United Nations celebration on Nov. 4, the 2016 North Luzon Academic Olympics on Nov. 5-6 and YMCA Martial Arts Expo (Nov. 12-13).
On Nov. 26, three events will be conducted – the YMCA 3K and 5K Fun Run at 6 a.m.; the YMCA Lantern-Making Contest at 9 a.m. and the Inter-School Choral Extravaganza at 10 a.m.
Celebration proper on Dec. 1 will begin with the street parade at 7 a.m. and thanksgiving mass at 9 a.m.
At 2 p.m., the Search for Little Mr. and Miss YMCA will be conducted. The celebration will end with the awards and fellowship night at 6 p.m.
Other activities in the December line-up are the hospital visitation on Dec. 8; YMCA gift-giving outreach program, Dec. 14; YMCA Family Day and Christmas Party, Dec. 17 and 3rd clean-up drive on Dec. 21.
YMCA Baguio is presently headed by club president Jerome Gawidan.
