BAGUIO CITY- the YMCA of the City of Baguio, Inc. in coordination with the DepEd Division of Baguio City, recently floated communications for elementary and secondary schools for the Annual YMCA Inter-School Elementary and Secondary Basketball Tournament set to open on September 5, 2015 at the YMCA gymnasium here.
Participation in the tournament as endorsed by the DepEd is open to all students enrolled in the different public and private elementary and high school that will be played in three divisions; Elementary boys (12 years old and below), High School girls (17 years old and below) and High school boys (17 years and below) for varsity players and (15 years and below) for developmental players.
Entry and registration requirements for participation in the tournament forwarded by the YMCA to the schools, such as team galleries, and individual player registration forms, birth certificate of individual players and certificate of enrolment duly authenticated by the school registrar together with the corresponding team registration fees must be submitted to the YMCA office on or before the deadline on August 29, 2015. An orientation meeting also will be scheduled on September 3, 2015 for all team coaches at 4:00 pm. at the YMCA Function Hall.
The tournament aims to enhance the development of skills and talents of the youth in the field of basketball shall also immerse the students in fellowship, and actual tournament experience that will help in moulding their personalities holistically to be better athletes and citizens in the future.
Meanwhile, the second leg of the YMCA OPEN INVITATIONAL BADMINTON TOURNAMENT in coordination with the DepEd is also set for kick off come September 19-20, 2015 at the YMCA gym here. The tournament in three divisions will cater to Elementary (boys and girls), and High School (boys and girls) students and Senior/corporate (men and women) badminton players and enthusiasts.
The three divisions shall also be categorized in the following; Elementary Level A – Varsity Players and Level – B – developmental players, High School Level A- varsity players and Level B- for developmental players. The Seniors/corporate division will be categorized in five levels as follows; Level A – for current and former varsity players and Level A corporate players, Level B- for advance players, Level C – Intermediate players and medallists in level C or D of recently held tournaments, Level D- for players under level D and medallists in level D or E recently held tournaments, Level E- players not falling under the definition of the above mentioned levels or beginners.
The tournament based on the International Badminton Federation shall follow the 1-35 pts. Scoring system. The deadline for submission of entries and registration fees as follows; Elementary – Php 175.00 per player/event, High School – Php 225.00 per player/event and Seniors/corporate – Php 275.00 per player per event will be on September 17, 2015.
All players are only allowed to participate in a maximum of two events per category; Boys or girls Doubles, and Mixed Doubles for Elementary and High School participants, Men or Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles for the Senior/ Corporate participants. Games will start at 8:00 am. on September 19, 2015 at the YMCA gym here, a fifteen (15) minute defaulting time for all players will be in effect.
