LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – To encourage young artists from the different barangays of La Trinidad to use coffee as the medium to craft their artworks, a coffee painting competition was held at the municipal park on February 12.
“Kasi hindi siya very common na medium, we encourage every artist na sana meron yung mag specialize ng coffee painting kasi meron din namang opportunities not only locally, we can also compete nationally or they can have exhibition,” as enthused by Chelle Charlden C. Carlos, Agriculturist I and Coffee program focal person. (Since it is not a very common medium, we encourage every artist to seek specialization in coffee painting because more opportunities are waiting for them, not only locally, we can also compete nationally or they can have an exhibition.)
The six participants, endorsed by each barangay captain, have stroked their creativity while brushing a glimpse of unity among Igorots with a drip of coffee grounds, living up to the festivity’s theme dubbed as, “Brewing Unity through Coffee.”
“We usually say na let’s have it over with a cup of coffee so that’s what we would like to see sa kanilang mga artwork,” Carlos said.
She furthered that since coffee has reached the global market as a very popular commodity, local artists could venture into expanding their horizons and showcase their artistry in coffee painting.
The winner of the said competition, as announced on February 14, was from Barangay Wangal. By Lyka A. Capsula
