BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police office (BCPO) urged young drivers to serve as models for future drivers by strictly adhering to traffic rules and regulations that is part of the ongoing strategic measures to contribute in reducing vehicular accidents in the city.
BCPO Strategic Management Team head Police Col. Judy Jasmin Palicos said that there are already many young drivers in the city and that their utmost cooperation and active participation to the implementation of ongoing measures to address the problem of increasing vehicular accidents around the city is important in dealing with the issue at hand.
She claimed that the local police force will be going around the different universities and colleges to conduct lectures on road safety to help in informing and educating the youth on the importance of being a disciplined and respectful driver, especially when they are on the road.
Further, the BCPO official added that their team will also be engaging the city’s 128 barangays for the conduct of similar lectures among the interested constituents as one of the strategies to address the problem.
According to her, the BCPO is also doing regular postings in various social media pages on road safety tips, among others, to continuously provide the public with vital information that will allow them to be vigilant when on the road to avoid any untoward incident that will impact on the safety and security of the public, especially those on the road.
She admitted that the available data on the number of vehicular accidents in the city is increasing thus the need for all concerned government agencies, law enforcement offices, the local government, the transport sector and vehicle owners and motorists to be actively involved in the ongoing efforts to come up with a comprehensive strategy that will contribute in reducing the occurrence of the accidents in the future.
