BAGUIO CITY – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) participates in the first quarter of the Nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill (NSED) last Friday March 31,2017 facilitated by the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera.
Franzes Ivy Carasi, Information officer Civil defense Cordillera, said that more than a hundred thousand people participated in the activity that was held in Baguio City including different provinces like Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mt. Province.
The earthquake drill started last March 14, 2017, about 67 public elementary and high schools in Baguio City joined the drill on March 22, 2017 in order for students to participate before school ended.
The NSED is in compliance with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) memorandum no. 46 series 2017 that was released on March 17, 2017 stating that regional offices of civil defense are directed to conduct or facilitate earthquake drills.
Ms. Carasi also said that though equipments for rescuing operations are not that complete, it is good to see local counterparts are doing their best to acquire said equipments.
Raffy Astudillo, Business owner, said that the level of preparedness of people will help them in case a devastating earthquake will come, he said that NSED is a great activity to train people especially students.
NSED is part of a seies of drills that will be conducted quarterly by Civil Defense Cordillera this 2017.
