The implementation of various infrastructure projects in the city’s barangays will be closely monitored by the barangay project monitoring team to ensure these are implemented according to project plans and specifications.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong urged barangay officials to mobilize their project monitoring teams to actively monitor various infrastructure projects being implemented in their barangays to prevent the waste of public funds from substandard projects.
He reminded barangay officials and members of the various project monitoring teams to immediately report to him evident activities of contractors that tend to compromise the quality of the projects being undertaken to prevent questionable activities from happening and to ensure the quality of the projects.
The city chief executive pointed out that the active involvement of the barangay officials and the residents in monitoring the various projects being implemented in their barangays will definitely help in compelling the contractors to properly prosecute their awarded projects so as not to waste public funds and provide the city residents with good quality projects.
According to him, barangay officials where modernized barangay halls will be constructed this year should ensure that these structures that will be erected will be worth the funds that had been provided for the city’s priority projects.
He assured that the city government will continue sourcing out funds from various sources to sustain the provision of funds to build other similarly appropriate barangay structures.
The mayor called on barangays that did not yet organize their respective project monitoring teams to reconstitute their own special body for the immediate monitoring of infrastructure projects that will be implemented in their places as per compliance to project plans and specifications.
He stated the city government embarked on an aggressive campaign against corruption down to the barangays thus the active participation of the barangays in the aforesaid campaign necessitates the involvement of the barangay officials in curbing corrupt practice to guarantee them better quality projects for their constituencies.
The city mayor cited that barangay officials should play a key role in empowering their constituents to be vigilant on the way the projects are implemented so that contractors will be compelled to ensure that the quality of projects will not be sacrificed for the benefit of the beneficiaries.
Magalong said the city government will be transparent on the implementation of all projects so that barangays will have a chance to look into the quality of the projects being prosecuted in their respective areas of jurisdiction. By Dexter A. See
