DAGUIOMAN, Abra – A 59-year old employee of the municipal government died after he was hit by the passenger jeepney where he was on board at sitio Banaang barangay Cabaruyan here Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent Albertlito S. Garcia, director of the Abra provincial police office, identified the fatality as Agripino Baganao, 59, an employee of the Daguioman local government unit and a resident of Pikek, Daguioman, Abra.
Initial investigation showed Romeo Batoon Dugayen, 45, a jeepney driver and a resident of barangay Cabaruyan, Daguioman, Abra reported to the police that the victim died after he was hit by his vehicle that suffered mechanical trouble while negotiating an ascending portion of the road where the accident happened.
The driver informed probers that while his vehicle was traversing the ascending portion of the road, it suffered a mechanical trouble forcing it to move backwards.
However, the victim tried to jump out of the vehicle to scamper for safety but he was hit by the vehicle’s rear wheel which inflicted multiple injuries on his body.
Garcia said concerned citizens immediately rushed the victim to the Daguioman rural health unit but he later died while undergoing medical treatment on the injuries he sustained from the accident.
The driver is temporarily detained at the Daguioman municipal station while his vehicle was impounded awaiting the results of the investigation of the said case.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide are now being prepared for filing against the jeepney driver before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
