TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Tabuk City Mayor Darwin Estrañero together with City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Sally Lammawin and her staff received a package of solid waste management equipment consisting of a brand-new biodegradable waste shredder and composter from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources -Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) to improve the solid waste implementation of the city.
The city government was chosen as one of the recipients of a bio-waste shredder which can generate around 250 kilograms of waste per hour and a composter set which can compose 1,000 kilograms of wastes per batch. These equipment package were given and delivered free-of-charge and will be installed at Barangay Dilag Engineered Sanitary Landfill.
The city has prepared a suitable site with a minimum area of 200 square meters with a shed measuring at least of 10 meters in length x 20 meters in width x 4 meters in height and a single-phase power supply for the installation of said equipment.
As agreed, the city government shall maintain the equipment to ensure their sustainability.
To reduce wastes generated within the city, residents and visitors including business establishment owners are urged to practice reusing and recycling as well as regulation of wastes in compliance with Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Solid Waste Management Act and other environmental related laws.
