BANGUED, Abra – Two sets of solar power systems, each valued at PhP99,950, were successfully delivered and installed in the Barangays of Amtuagan and Dilong in Tubo Ancestral Domain (AD) to support the operations of two farmer cooperatives associations (FCAs) engaged in the chicken egg enterprise.
The Amtuagan Rural Improvement Club (RIC) and Dilong Rice Producers Association, both operating under the umbrella of Tipon iti Umili para ti Panagsalwad ti Naparswaan (TIPON), partnered with the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program to implement these livelihood interventions.
In rural areas like Tubo AD, access to reliable electricity from the grid is limited. By installing solar power systems, the FCAs can ensure an uninterrupted power supply for their chicken egg enterprise; crucial in maintaining optimal conditions such as temperature and lighting within the poultry facilities. Solar energy proves to be cost-efficient, especially for small-scale enterprises, and is environmentally sustainable as it relies on clean and renewable energy sources.
FBS orientation
An orientation on the Farmer Business School (FBS) was conducted in Barangay Tubtuba, Tubo AD targeting members of the TUBPAN Sugarcane Production and Processing Association. This FCA also operates under the umbrella of TIPON. The orientation focused on setting expectations for participants, who anticipate gaining insights into various aspects of the sugarcane business, including production techniques and processing of sugarcane products like “balikutsa.”
The significance of FBS was discussed, along with procedural details, prerequisites, and duration. Agreements were reached regarding the conduct of the FBS, including the completion of inventory forms to establish baseline data on sugarcane production within the association. Matters such as session schedules, venue selection, and adherence to house rules were also deliberated and agreed upon.
A total of 23 participants expressed their willingness to undertake the FBS, a season-long activity covering a comprehensive curriculum aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in sugarcane production and related business aspects.
