LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Malacanang recently declared Friday, June 14, 2024 as a special non-working day in the municipality in celebration of the town’s 74th founding anniversary.
Proclamation No. 565 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. stated that it is but fitting and proper that the people of the municipality be given the full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.
The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Pemidbid ni Edafuan, Mangibahed ni Kabayan (Recognizing Our Roots, Building A Resilient Future).’
Mayor Romeo K. Salda said that the guest of honor and speaker during the founding anniversary program on June 13, 2024 will be Cooperative Development Authority (CdA) Undersecretary Santiago S. Lim.
Earlier, Mayor Salda requested the Office of the President to declare Friday, June 14, 2024 as a special non-working day in the municipality in lieu of Sunday, June 16, 2024 which is the official founding anniversary of the municipality to enable the people to fully and actively participate in the said occasion.
The town’s 74 founding anniversary will kick off with an ecumenical service on Monday, June 10, 2024 at the municipal gymnasium which will be followed by the ribbon cutting of the product fair at the municipal grounds.
Further, the local government will also hold the 2nd La Trinidad History forum to provide residents and visitors alike with the town’s rich history.
On June 13, 2024, concerned sectors, both government and private, will be joining the traditional civic parade along the stretch of the Halsema highway from Km. 6 in front of the Cordillera office of the Commission on Audit (COA-CAR) up to the municipal gymnasium where the main program will be conducted.
Part of the main program will be the prestigious Kayabang Awards where outstanding residents and organizations will be given the appropriate recognition by the local government for their contribution in the town’s growth and development through the years.
Moreover, residents and visitors will also have the chance to join the indigenous peoples games and cultural celebration that will cap the said occasion.
On June 14, 2024, interested blood donors can actively join in the bloodletting drive while art enthusiasts will be given a chance to show their talents in the scheduled Latte Art Competition which will be held at the municipal hall grounds.
Republic Act 531 which was issued on June 16, 1950 established the municipality of La Trinidad in the sub-province of Benguet from the old Mountain Province.
“We enjoin our people to join us in the celebration of our town’s founding anniversary for us to learn about our rich history.
