BAGUIO CITY – Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO)-Cordillera Administrative Region personnel and staff from the Baguio City Veterinary and Agriculture Office collaborated to conduct a free pet Spay and Neuter at Barangay Santo Niño, Purok Makati, Slaughterhouse Compound, Baguio City on June 20, 2024.
“Our main target while we conduct this Spay and Neuter services is to control the overpopulation of cats and dogs in the city and nearby provinces,” OIC-City Veterinarian Gladys Bantog said in an interview. “Neutering male dogs and cats also will lessen their aggressiveness and including the practice of marking their boundaries by spreading their urine everywhere,” she added.
Bantog also mentioned that the practice of spaying and neutering the pets eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer.
“When I see kittens being left and thrown anywhere, I feel so heartbroken,” Ignacio Lubwat, a resident of Barangay Santo Rosario Valley shared. “That’s why I decided to have my pet be neutered because a lot of stray cats are coming to our house in order for me to help prevent the tendency of unwanted animal pregnancies,” he added.
The free Spay and Neuter event recorded 91 (10 dogs and 81 cats) pets that have undergone the said free services. By Tan Dulag
