The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-RFO CAR) employees, together with the Bureau of Plant Industry and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, actively took part in the nationwide conduct of the CY 2024 first quarter earthquake drill.
This initiative is in full compliance with the directives set forth by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC Memo Nos. 020 s. of 2024) and Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDDRMC Memorandum No. 24 s. of 2024) concerning the 1st quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) CY 2024 Ceremonial Pressing of the Button.
During the drill, employees practiced the “DUCK, COVER, and HOLD” procedure as the siren signaled the start of the simulation. DRRM staff member, Crisante K. Rosario, provided a briefing to ensure that all participants were aware of the necessary steps to take before, during, and after an earthquake occurs.
Furthermore, SFO3 Criston M. Pedaso from the Baguio City Fire Station shared insights on how to effectively respond to a fire involving an LPG tank, as well as the correct usage of fire extinguishers. He emphasized that contrary to popular belief, LPG tanks do not explode, dispelling a common misconception.
In her address, Regional Executive Director Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan expressed her gratitude for the learning opportunity the lecture provided. “We have gained valuable insights today, and I believe this is just the beginning of our journey towards greater preparedness. Your guidance and teachings will be remembered and applied in our future endeavors. This drill is also timely as we observe Fire Prevention Month,” Dawayan shared.
SFO3 Pedaso was joined by FO3 Angelica P. Moises and FO1 Lara Kate T. De Guia, who provided support throughout the lecture demonstration. By Leny D. Mendoza
