BONTOC, Mountain Province – The provincial government initiated a special day for senior citizens under the theme “Graceful Aging and Healthy Living, Spiritual Enhancement and Wellness for Senior Citizens” at the Senior Citizens Center, Bilibid Compound, Upper Calluttit on June 18, 2024.
According to Social Worker Officer Aileen C. Capuyan, the activity is a yearly program of the center and one of the main programs of the provincial government for senior citizens.
During the program, Executive Assistant John T. Challoy representing Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. together with PSWDO Miguela P. Angwani and Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines Incorporated President (Bontoc), Atty. Florence N. Taguiba, were one in welcoming the participants and in acknowledging the contributions of the participants in nation building.
As part of the activity, Health Education and Promotion Officer Febbylaine P. Fillag from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer lectured on the topic regarding graceful aging and healthy living. She explained why humans age, and shared how to take good care of one’s factory (cells), and how to enjoy life with healthy living.
In the conclusion of her message, she mentioned that graceful aging and healthy living are not just about adding years to your life but is about adding life to your years.
“So let’s celebrate our age, stay active, eat well, keep learning, connect with others and maintain a positive attitude. Here’s to living our best lives, no matter our age,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rev. Father Marcial Lloyd Castaneda, with his humor, lectured on spiritual enhancement. He discussed the meaning of longevity, spirituality, morality, and mentality with stories, songs, related videos, pictures, quotations and bible verses which was very much enjoyed by the audience.
In the afternoon, the senior citizens received a wellness treat from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the agency’s industry partners through services rendered such as free haircut, manicure, and pedicure services.
For their part, the senior citizens expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the activity, the Provincial Government, to the speakers who shared their ideas, to the TESDA and the skilled workers for the free services rendered. By HENT
