City officials recently requested concerned government agencies and local government offices to facilitate the immediate removal of premature campaign materials such as signatures, posters and other related objects in the city.
Under Resolution No. 207, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the proliferation of posters of politicians, among others, are seen as nuisance, misleading if not unethical to the city’s landscapes and values and contribute to the increasing volume of waste being generated from the city’s households.
The council raised the observation that posters of certain personalities are posted on posts, roads and bridges within the city limits providing undue advantage to those who can afford to provide the funds needed for them to become popular prior to the May 2025 mid-term elections.
Section 1, paragraph 2 of Ordinance No. 33, series of 20212 or the No Naming and No Signage on public works and properties ordinance clearly defines that it shall be unlawful for politicians, public officials and private individuals to affix their names by way of inscription, painting, engraving, sculpturing or super-imposing one’s name, symbol, or sign using paint, metal or plastic craft, wood or cement structure, including but not limited to all projects funded by public funds such as buildings, road, bridges, overpasses, roads, gymnasiums, classrooms, waiting sheds, terminals and markets.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned government agencies and local government offices for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
