Almost all of the land area of Barangay Cabaruan is susceptible to severe flooding due to the overflow of the Chico River, hence, barangay officials have prioritized projects to mitigate the effects of flooding, particularly the erosion of farm lands.
One of such projects is the river rechanneling completed by the city in the first quarter of 2021 amounting to 5 million pesos. Punong Barangay Virgilio Ancheta said that this will help to once and for all solve the issue of flooding, adding that some families have moved to other barangays since their farm lands were “washed-out” by the river current.
In addition to the river rechanneling, Ancheta requested that a gabion wall will also be constructed along the river banks as a long-term solution to flooding and erosion.
Road projects
Aside from the river channeling, some noteworthy infrastructure projects were also completed in the said barangay including a newly opened road at Purok 7 amounting to P2-million. According to Ancheta, in 2020, several projects were completed including a 7-million road project also in Purok 7; riprapping and gravelling of road at Purok 4 (3-million).
A 1.5-million roofing of the barangay gymnasium is also ongoing.
Ancheta said that these road projects have great impact in the transportation of residents and their agricultural produce and has helped ease the transportation woes of the residents especially those in the farthest sitios.
“Dakkel nga tulong dagitoy road projects ni Mayor Estrañero ditoy ta dati haan nga madalan dagitoy ti lugan, ta napitak nuang lang makadalan, tattan uray dagitoy center car ket mabalin dan nga sumrek,” he said.
