TABUK CITY, Kalinga – After Typhoon Egay hit Kalinga, no fatalities were recorded, but it caused significant damage to both agriculture and infrastructure. Governor James Edduba presented this data to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the Situational Briefing in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, earlier today.
The report highlighted that damages to infrastructure in both the Lower and Upper districts of Kalinga soared to PhP 322,745,564, which include slope protection, farm-to-market roads, national roads, footbridges, and flood control drainage, while agriculture suffered damages totaling PhP 27,053,262 for rice crops, PhP 32,531,376 for corn, and PhP 4,475,940 for high-valued crops.
Edduba also mentioned that a total of 801 families, comprising 3,939 individuals, have been affected throughout the province. Structural damages, particularly to houses and schools, were also recorded in Lubuagan, Tinglayan, and Tanudan.
Regarding road access, he reported that roads connecting to Barangays Balatoc-Colayo Pasil and Kalinga-Abra Road are still closed due to collapsed soil, while power and reception in Balbalan, Tanudan, and some Barangays of Pasil remain down.
In response, President Marcos grants PhP 5 Million in Special Financial Assistance to Kalinga to aid the affected families in the province, and pledges to provide essential relief goods and seedlings to help both residents and farmers impacted by the typhoon. By Ruth Cupang
