TABUK CITY, Kalinga- Officials from the Kalinga Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Army met with members from the Kalinga Returnee’s Association (KRA) on June 16, 2021 at Camp Juan M. Duyan.
The KRA is an organization composed of former rebels who decided to leave their former cause and return to the government’s fold.
The purpose of said meeting was to present programs and activities laid out by the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) in relation to the National Government’s program to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) and ask for their support.
During said meeting, the authorities urged the KRA to be one of its advocacy groups to spread awareness to the general public, not just on the fight against terrorism but also against illegal drugs, criminality and many more.
The Philippine Army (PA) discussed the different livelihood programs and benefits for the returnees and appeal for their cooperation to achieve peace within the province.
The meeting also served as a way for the returnees to air their concerns to the authorities and an avenue to work better together.
Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong narrated the peace and order situation of the province then and now.
The Police Director credited the growth of the city, as well as the province, to the improved peace and order situation.
He said that investors and stakeholders can now work, live and bring in their business in the province without fearing for the safety of their products and their own. Protecting the people will ensure peaceful trade and will eventually boost the city and the province’s economic activity, bringing in more income to Kalinga. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
