BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan issued Administrative Order No. 004, series of 2017 temporarily closing both lanes of Upper Session Road from the Session Road rotunda up to its junction with Military Cut-off and Loakan roads and both lanes of South Drive Road from 8 am to 12 noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 to pave the way for the mini-streetdancing and mini-float parade for the visiting Miss Universe contestants.
The local chief executive explained these two activities is worth witnessing, thus, residents and visitors must position themselves early along the parade route to allow them to be in strategic places to see for themselves the visiting beauty contestants.
“There is a need for us to close the two major roads in the city for the smooth conduct of the streeetdancing and mini-float parade. We finalized the traffic and security plans to ready Baguio for the visit of the Miss Universe contestants,” Domogan stressed.
The 32 Miss Universe beauty contestants, and reigning Miss Universe beauty titlist Pia Wurtzbach, will be leaving Manila at around 7:05 am on January 18, 2017, and will be arriving in the Loakan airport an hour later.
While at the Loakan airport, a contingent from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the premier military school in Asia, will perform a silent drill to welcome the visitors.
The entourage of the beauty contestants will then motor to Upper Session road where they will board the flower-decorated floats escorted by visiting and local streetdancing contingents for the streetdancing and mini-float parade at around 9:30 am.
Domogan encouraged residents and visitors to show to the visiting beauty contestants the warm welcome of the city that will make the experience worthy for the beauties and the viewing public alike.
He added a sufficient number of police personnel will be deployed by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) along the parade route to guarantee the smooth conduct of the streetdancing and mini-float parade and to prevent any untoward incident that might happen during the said activity.
Originally, the parade route was from the DILG rotunda to the Baguio Country Club premises but Mayor Domogan requested the organizers to bring the starting point of the parade to the Session road rotunda area so more people can witness the different beauties.
He reported the traffic condition along major roads in the city will be under control during the visit because there will be enough policemen, volunteers and augmentation forces deployed all over the city for security and traffic reasons.
