Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) super bantamweight Bener Santig’s MMA career got off to a good start as he submitted John Eco in the inaugural event of Blaze Fighting Championship last December 17 at Quezon City.
Santig traded strikes with Eco early their bout but it was the execution of a guillotine choke that had Eco tapped out at the 2:13 mark of the first round.
Ironically, Santig counted on his striking ability given his boxing skills but his lack of grappling and martial arts skills did not get in the way on the execution of a submission move.
The Highland Boxing Gym fighter is set to train further on grappling and take down techniques as he makes his transition to MMA universe.
Santig is just more than a month from winning the vacant Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) super bantamweight title last November 5 against Edward Camion via split decision at the BSU Gym, in La Trinidad, Benguet.
The 26-year old fighter from Kapangan, Benguet has a professional boxing record at 5-1-1, including one knockout victory over Alimar Francisco in Madaluyong City only last June 10, 2016.
He will be campaigning as a flyweight in MMA.
