The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to hold a comprehensive celebration of labor unity and support in Baguio City, under the leadership of Regional Director Nathaniel B. Lacambra. With an ethos embracing a “whole-of-government” approach, this year’s celebrations are meant to bring together efforts by various government and non-government establishments.
“This is a demonstration of the whole-of-government approach towards celebrating Labor Day,” Director Lacambra said in his welcome remarks. He stressed that this was consistent with an established tradition of collaboration among different agencies and highlighted the launching of the Bagong Pilipinas Labor Day activities at La Trinidad.
Through a directive issued by the DOLE Secretary, which is focused on providing assistance to workers and constituents estimated at 30 million per province. This action would be supported by different programs such as livelihood assistance, Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program; Government Internship Programs among others that are carried out by partnering institutions.
The Assistant Director of DOLE CAR, Emerito Narag, highlighted the range of activities that are lined up for the May 1st Labor Day celebrations in 2024. Among others, a nationwide simultaneous job fair will be held at Baguio Convention Center and SM City Baguio for job seekers across the country.
Furthermore, “Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Mga Manggagawa” will collaborate with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to provide support services and economic empowerment for workers. Livelihood projects distribution through Integrated Livelihood Program of DOLE will also enhance sustainable means of livelihoods among beneficiaries.
On the other hand, TUPAD program payout roll out within Baguio City forms part of this agenda so as to ensure timely support for beneficiaries. One-Stop-Shop for government services shall be introduced not only in order to streamline administrative procedures but also making them accessible and efficient.
Health and wellness programs led by TESDA CAR will provide free services emphasizing employee welfare. For instance, it is through such platforms that BMBEs are taught how to manage businesses appropriately as well as how they can access various resources offered by the government.
To help participating employers, prior to the Job Fair an Employers Forum will be held to provide insights into how they can foster constructive dialogue, promote networking and collaboration. Alternatively, it is through orientation of online registered job seekers at the job fair that participants are equipped with relevant information about their prospective jobs.
The Kadiwa grant will be initiated on the 27th April 2024 and would take place at People’s Park after which it would move to Baguio Convention Center on May 1st and culminate in a joyous celebration of Filipino workers.
Consequently, as Labor Day approaches in Baguio City, these collective efforts among government institutions testify to their dedication towards the wellbeing of laborers countrywide.
