BAGUIO CITY – The UCCP LTB Sentinels edged the Anglican Angels in the first game of April 10, 2017 at the YMCA gym to climb to a 2-2 win loss card while the ROC Bros got their third win in a close call against the Assembly of God, 63-57 as basketball action at the YMCA gym, here, steadily got going before the Holy Week truce.
Soaring high on the first half of play the Angels, outscored the Sentinels, posting a 19-13 blast that resulted in a six points lead to end the first canto. The Angels further amplified this to an eleven point lead with a 23-17 blast in the second, giving them an 11 point advantage in the driver’s seat after the first half of play, 42-31.
Third canto action saw both ballclub’s exert their efforts trying to have control over the boards and scrambling for that lose ball with the Angels trying to maintain their lead and the Sentinels to chip off the lead. Directed by a slow paced third canto action, the Sentinels posted a 14-18 run to chip off the Angels lead to 56-49 at the end of the third quarter.
An early triple conversion in the three point line by the Sentinels in the early minutes of the fourth canto play gave them the boost to basket more points again and was successful in chipping the Angels lead further until tying the game by a 73-all deadlock in the dying minutes of the game.
The Angels bucketed a three pointer that placed them back on the driver’s seat, 76-73, which caught in awe and left them only optimistic for an overtime.
They, however, promptly got two points on the board and capitalized on a foul gave out by the Angels in the dying seconds, handing ball possession to the Sentinels with only 59.2 seconds left on the clock trailing by a point, 76-75.
Given a second chance for ball possession, the Sentinels bucketed a two pointer from the field to win the hard way, 77-76, just barely beating the buzzer in the fourth and final canto of the game and hand the Angels their third loss.
